A little bit more about me.

My name is Daniel Lawson, but you can call me anytime. I am many things but I like to think of myself as a dedicated non-specialist (according to my late grandma being a jack of all trades was a regrettable outcome but let’s not turn this into group therapy just yet). So, I’ve bet my life on being a generalist, sorry grandma.

I was born in Saudi Arabia in 1994, to a Korean Mother, and a New Zealand Father, moving to Melbourne in 2001 where I still live to this day. I found my passion for photography in the darkroom in Year 9 developing black and white film by hand. At age 17 I photographed my first event for money, and when I was 19 I registered my first ABN as a Sole Trader. I studied a Bachelor of Architecture at Monash University, turned my back on my passion only to then turn away from Architecture to build Prop & Pose Co. my photography and photo booth business in 2015.

While I built Prop & Pose I was also completing a Master of Marketing at RMIT University which I graduated from with Distinction in 2019. Also in 2019 I realised my personal dream of registering my own company PinchPoint Pty. Ltd. with the hope of beating imposter syndrome and proving to myself that I could. PinchPoint is now the owner of Prop & Pose Co. but my plans for the company are much bigger than that.

When coronavirus rocked 2020 it decimated the business, we went from the best year on record to an empty calendar in a matter of days. I’m not the most spiritual person by any stretch but I took that as a sign. I’d wanted to move beyond event photography for months, I had bigger dreams but no time to realise them, but after than I had a chance to do something about it.

I am many things and I’ve collected many skills, I’ve been a professional photographer and videographer, a designer, I’ve built a brand and run a business. Right now I’m learning to code, I’ve setup web servers on AWS and Google, built high performance WordPress Websites, and I’m hoping to continue developing my skills in Linux, IOT, JS, and Python.

I love learning, I live to build stuff, tear it down, and break things. I’m endlessly curious and there’s so much left to do. Stick around, join me, it’s going to be a wild ride!
